It felt strange when I decided to read this book so I could review it, because I had already read the second book in the series. However, I know I’m not the only one who started with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe when first reading the Chronicles of Narnia.
This book has a good storyline and really describes the beginning of Narnia, but I wouldn’t call it an essential if you want to read the series. The thing which makes the second book superior to the first one is consistency. Whilst Chronicles of Narnia 2’s storyline never weakens, the same can’t be said for the first book, where at most points it read really well, however, the lack of real action means that some parts are dull and feel like a chore to read.78%
